Collegiate athletics came to a halt in mid-March. With social distancing, remote work schedules and the inability to gather to cheer on our favorite teams, came a void. The void of seeing our favorite teams compete; the void of watching our favorite student-athletes grow and improve.
Â
Florida Atlantic athletics recognizes that void and has seized the opportunity by providing an opportunity for fans to get to know the FAU athletes and coaches in a series called "Owl Letters." It is just one of the #WinningInParadise series that FAUSports.com will bring to you, our loyal fans.

Dear Soccer,
Ever since I was a kid, my life has been turning around you. At first, you came to me as an instruction, a game, something that could be played for hours, either on my own or with my family or friends. And friends is what you brought to me. Thanks to you, I started many people that have stayed near me ever since. People who shared my same dreams and aspirations. People who knew how big of a sacrifice it was trying to make academics and soccer compatible. People who on a Sunday morning were waking up as early as I was because we had a game that day. People with whom I spent hours on a bus on our way to a soccer tournament and with whom I would spend the next couple of days competing together on the field and living unique experiences off it, and that is what will last in my memory forever.
Â
Those experiences I have been able to go through thanks to you. Some of them were positive. Some of them were not, but once I take a look back at those negative ones, I realize how much they have helped me growing up. They have made me stronger. They have made me value more every single good experience soccer and therefore life has brought to me. Because that is what soccer is, a representation of what you will find during the rest of your life. Any other situation you go through, any job, project (or) family experience, soccer will have gotten you ready to face all of those in the best way possible.
Â
The last big thing you had waiting for me was coming to the US, to Florida Atlantic University and being able to play soccer while ... getting my degree. This would change my life drastically. It would make me meet people, that as of now, are key in helping me reach the best person of me both on the field and in classes. The best part is that this is not over. We still have plenty of time ahead of us to keep building new experiences around you. Thank you,
Â
