Owl Letters - Wilfredo Alvarez

Collegiate athletics came to a halt in mid-March. With social distancing, remote work schedules and the inability to gather to cheer on our favorite teams, came a void. The void of seeing our favorite teams compete; the void of watching our favorite student-athletes grow and improve.
Florida Atlantic athletics recognizes that void and has seized the opportunity by providing an opportunity for fans to get to know the FAU athletes and coaches in a series called "Owl Letters." It is just one of the #WinningInParadise series that FAUSports.com will bring to you, our loyal fans.
Dear Baseball,
I fell in love with you watching Yankee games with my dad from a young age. Since then, my passion, excitement and enthusiasm for you has only increased. Whether it was cloudy and rainy or hot and humid, you always found a way to get the best out of me. I've given you my heart, sweat and tears and for that, you've rewarded me many times. You make me feel more alive than anything I've ever experienced. However, you've also found ways to quickly humble me and teach me lessons that no one ever could. You taught me what hard work, dedication, discipline, commitment and respect is all about. You've shown me how to deal with failure and how to cherish every moment, good or bad. For many years, you've been the backbone of my life. At some point, I will have to go my separate way. I will always be grateful for the unforgettable moments, the lessons you taught me, the friendships you gave me, the experiences you allowed me to have, the struggles you made me grow through, and most importantly, for making me the person I am today. Who knew a wooden stick and a dirty ball could go such a long way?
Thanks Always,
Wilfredo Alvarez
