Men’s Soccer Announces Staff Changes Ahead of 2026 Season

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lucas Champeonis has been hired as Florida Atlantic's assistant men's soccer coach, announced Joey Worthen, FAU's head men's soccer coach, on Monday.
Champeonis is replacing Tom Harman, who departs after seven seasons to become a First Team Analyst and Scout for the Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the United Soccer League.

Champenois comes to Florida Atlantic after one season at Campbell University. In 2025, Champenois helped the Camels to a 10-win campaign and a second-place finish in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) South Division.
The native of Mountain View, California has also spent time at FIU (2022-24), NC State (2019-21), and New Mexico (2016-19). Champenois has played a developing role in the careers of over 20 players who have gone on to play professionally, including 2023 Sporting KC first-round pick Simon Afrifa and 2024 third-round pick Mikey Appiah.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Champenois was a four-year standout goalkeeper at Saint Mary's College in California. He served as team captain and finished his career third all-time in program history in goals-against average (1.23). During his senior season in 2015, Champenois led the West Coast Conference (WCC) in shutouts, goals allowed, and goals against average (0.95), while also earning Second Team All-WCC honors.
Champenois holds a U.S. Soccer Federation 'D' License and is fluent in French and proficient in Spanish. He got his start in coaching in 2015, serving as an assistant coach with Diablo Football Club in Concord, California.
The Owls will open the 2026 season in defense of their 2025 American Conference crown against Mercer on Thursday, Aug. 20. FAU will host UCF for its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 23.
