Upcoming Event: Men's Basketball versus Coastal Georgia on November 17, 2025 at 7 p.m.

Assistant coach Alice McCall joined the swimming and diving staff in August of 2016. McCall has been a key member of the coaching staff, leading FAU’s recruiting efforts on the men’s side, as well as overseeing the distance group. She is going into her fifth season on staff.
The FAU swimming & diving program has seen major performance improvement with multiple distance competitors setting records and lifetime bests over the past five years at the Conference USA and Coastal Collegiate Athletics Association Swimming and Diving Championships. At the 2020 CCSA Championships, four Owls advanced to the A-Final in the 500 free with Josh Fountain earning silver and Clay Riemenschneider taking the bronze medal. Will Smith also took a podium finish in the 1650 free with the bronze medal. On the women’s side, Spence Atkins capped off her final season with two bronze medals at the C-USA Championships, coming in the 500 free and mile.
Under McCall’s assistance, the women’s team is coming off the 2020 C-USA Championships with a third-place finish, its best feat in a C-USA Championship and highest finish since 2008. For the men, the team was the runner-up at the 2019 CCSA Championships, where Fountain received a gold medal in the 500 free, as well as broke a school record in the 1650 free with a silver finish. Smith also made the podium with bronze finishes in the 500 and 1650 free.
The year 2018 was a breakout season for the distance swimmers. Smith broke a then 12-year FAU freshman record in the 1650 free with a bronze finish at the 2018 CCSA Championships and Atkins walked away with two C-USA titles in the 1650 free and 200 fly to win the C-USA Newcomer of the Year. Natalie Clausen also earned a second-place finish in the 500 free at the Championships.
McCall joined the FAU swim program from Toledo, where she was the assistant swimming coach for two years. She was responsible for leading the mid-distance and distance groups, resulting in 95 percent of the squad swimming personal best times. This was achieved by developing, documenting and communicating the season plans for both squads, and supporting each swimmer on an individual basis to help them reach their goals. She was also the recruiting coordinator for the 2015-16 season, recruiting at both the national and international level and closing out the year with a program-impacting recruiting class.
Prior to her time with the Rockets, McCall started her U.S. swimming career in Dallas where she was a standout distance swimmer at Southern Methodist University for four years. She was a consistent scorer and medal-earner for the Mustangs, and was named a team captain for her senior season. McCall was a member of the C-USA championship-winning 800 free relay team as a junior, and in her first year with the program, she earned a bronze medal in the 200 free, runner-up honors in the 500 free and took home the gold and C-USA Title in the 1650 free. In addition to great athletic results, McCall also earned Scholar Baller Honors for showing progression in academics over the course of her four years at SMU.
McCall is very active in the coaching community. She was appointed as a representative of the WeCOACH Council in August 2019, where she is serving a two-year term. Prior to her appointment to the Council, McCall was an active member of WeCOACH through the mentorship program. In May 2019, McCall was also one of six recipients chosen to receive the 2019 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of American Jean Freeman Scholarship.
A native of Wigan, Great Britain, McCall was a senior swimmer and international representative for her hometown squad. She was a nationally-ranked junior, having first represented Great Britain as a 16 year old. She was also a member of the Great Britain Open Water squad in a number of international competitions including the FINA World Cup series, European Cup series and European Junior Championships, gaining numerous top-5 and top-10 finishes. She was also a 2007 World Championships qualifier.
McCall graduated from SMU with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and is enrolled in the well-renowned FAU MBA Sport Management program, where she will graduate in August 2020.
