Collegiate athletics came to a halt in mid-March. With social distancing, remote work schedules and the inability to gather to cheer on our favorite teams, came a void. The void of seeing our favorite teams compete; the void of watching our favorite student-athletes grow and improve.
Florida Atlantic athletics recognizes that void and has seized the opportunity by providing an opportunity for fans to get to know the FAU athletes and coaches in a series called "Owl Letters." It is just one of the #WinningInParadise series that FAUSports.com will bring to you, our loyal fans.
Dear Softball,
Thank you for always being there, no matter what was going on in life, outside of the game. You are steady, and unwavering, and dependable. Thank you for creating opportunities for me to meet people that I'm blessed to know, and especially to be able to call my teammates, coaches and lifelong friends.
Thank you for giving me a reason to constantly push myself, physically and mentally. Because I didn't realize it at the time, but while I thought I was working on you, in reality you were working on me. Thank you for heartache, and frustrations, and shortcomings – because you taught me how to deal with these pains. This is my first real glove, and this is my last one. As I think back, I can't remember a time when you weren't a part of my life. You're more than a game. We create communities that remain long after we're done on the field. And for these reasons, I'll always be indebted to you.
