In 2012, Florida Atlantic added beach volleyball as its 19th varsity sport. With the sport continuing to grow and receive support throughout the NCAA community, the Owls decided to build a permanent home on the Boca Raton campus. FAU debuted on the courts with an intrasquad match on February 21, 2015. The first official match occurred on March 11, 2015 when the Owls hosted in-state rival FIU.

The complex, located north of the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center and east of Joan Joyce Field, features three courts for officially sanctioned NCAA matches. Beach chairs line the outskirts of the courts to allow fans an up close and personal view of all the action.
