Collegiate athletics came to a halt in mid-March. With social distancing, remote work schedules and the inability to gather to cheer on our favorite teams, came a void. The void of seeing our favorite teams compete; the void of watching our favorite student-athletes grow and improve.
Florida Atlantic athletics recognizes that void and has seized the opportunity by providing an opportunity for fans to get to know the FAU athletes and coaches in a series called "Owl Letters." It is just one of the #WinningInParadise series that FAUSports.com will bring to you, our loyal fans.
Dear Golf,
Â
Sometimes you make me want to scream or throw my clubs in the lake, but I still love you. You've taught me so many things, from learning how to be competitive and confident, to being humble and calm. You've also taught me how to be patient and how to have 100% trust in things. You've helped me learn how to control my emotions and how important it is to do so, not only in golf but in all aspects of life. Nothing will ever get better if you continue to have a negative outlook on it. When you're in a tough situation on the course or the last few shots didn't go the way you wanted them to, you need to be able to move on to the next shot. I've learned to apply this to real life too and it has helped me in so many situations.
Â
You've also exposed me to so many amazing people, and one is my teammate and my best friend who I wouldn't trade for anyone. My dad was the one who introduced me to you and he and I have a relationship that I couldn't be more thankful for. He's obviously my dad but he's also one of my best friends, and we get to share our love for golf together. This is something really special to me because once you get to a certain level, golf is something that is really hard to understand. My dad has been there for me since day one. He understands how hard you can be, which is something I can't be more thankful for. Â
Â
I definitely have a love/hate relationship with you, but that's what makes it fun. Practice can get boring and very frustrating at times. Playing can be hard too when things don't go my way but being able to go out and shoot low and be proud of what I've accomplished makes it all worth it.
