BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University men's tennis, 12-10, holds a regular-season body of work that seeds the Owls #3 at the 2023 Conference USA Championship, slated to begin at Noon on Friday, April 21 in Houston, Texas.
FAU faced two C-USA opponents in 2023, splitting the results. The Owls, accustomed to pressured play, after facing seven opponents ranked in the nation's top-75 this season using a deep roster to gain valuable experience for the conference championship. Three players,
Hunter Robbins,
Joao Graca and
Kevin Huempfner, have tallied double digit wins with Robbins holding a 15-6 record (10-4 in dual match play), Graca standing at 12-9 (10-6 dual match play) and Huempfner entering the tournament at 10-10 (7-7 dual match play). As a team, the Owls are 42-23 (31-19 dual match play) in doubles. Robbins and Huempfner lead the way at 10-4 and when teamed with
Nicolas Acevedo Huempfner are 8-2. In total, 12 of the 16 doubles combinations have a winning doubles record.
While the Owls hold the higher seed heading into the tournament, #6 Charlotte narrowly holds a 3-2 all-time series lead, breaking the 2-2 series tie a year ago in the second round of the 2022 C-USA Championship with a 4-0 win. Of the five times the two teams have met, four have been in the annual conference event. For the superstitious fan, the Owls victories over Charlotte have come in odd numbered years.
The winner of the Florida Atlantic and Charlotte match will face UTSAÂ on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, April 23 at Noon.
