SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Letizia Bagnoli will tee off at the NCAA Division I National Championship on Friday. She will be the first Florida Atlantic University women's golfer to play in the DI National Championship.
It's been a historic season for
Letizia Bagnoli to this point. The senior transfer from Wake Forest won her first three events in the fall leading the Owls to two team victories in the process. She's finished in the Top 10 in eight of the 11 events she's competed in. Bagnoli was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week a league-record five times.
On April 20, she claimed the Conference USA Championship by seven shots for her fourth victory this season, tying the program record. Bagnoli advanced to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional where she narrowly missed out on win number five. She finished second by one shot to secure a place in this week's National Championship.
The Raptor Course at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona will serve as host. Situated in the Sonoran Desert, it will play as a par-72 at a length of 6,383 yards. This is the second consecutive year the course has hosted both the men's and women's National Championships.
Bagnoli jumped 39 spots in the Golfstat rankings after her performance at the Tallahassse Regional and is now the 20th ranked player in the field. Overall, 28 of the top 30 ranked players will compete at Grayhawk this week.
Bagnoli will tee off at 4:20 pm (EST) on Friday alongside Ole Miss.' Chiara Tamburlini and Furman's Anna Morgan
The championship format in Scottsdale will include 24 teams and 12 individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play, and then the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team competing for one additional day of stroke play.
