Scottsdale, Ariz. – Letizia Bagnoli finished strong on Sunday at the Division I National Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona. The senior posted a round of 70 (-2) and finished just one shot off the 54-hole cut line.
- Bagnoli began play on Sunday with her back to the wall needing a special round to advance to Monday's final round
- After starting on the 10th hole, she rebounded in a big way from bogeys at 14 and 15
- The Italian closed the first nine with an exclamation point. Three straight birdies at 16, 17, and 18 put her right back in the mix
- Despite another bogey at one, she played the final eight holes in two-under to post one of the best rounds in the field
- From there it was a waiting game to see if her three-day total of 224 (+8) would be good enough for a playoff to advance to Monday
- Ultimately, it was one short as +7 was the magic number needed to be included in a 5-way playoff for the final two spots
- Despite Sunday's result, the 2021-22 season will go down as one of the best individual and team seasons in FAU women's golf history
- Bagnoli broke several records along the way, most notably the single season scoring average record
- The previous record of 71.67 was set last season. Bagnoli's two birdies on the final eight holes on Sunday were crucial as she finished the season with a 71.62 average. Had she made two pars instead of birdies, her average would have been 71.68
- Bagnoli also broke the program records for under-par rounds and rounds played in addition to tying the single-season record for individual victories
- As a team, under the direction of first-year head coach Heather Bowie Young, the Owls won two tournaments and finished a program-best T3 at the Conference USA Championship
- Bowie Young expects most of the this year's roster to return in the fall including Bagnoli
