Owls End the Month with Conference Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's soccer team closed out the month of September with a 3-2 win over Temple on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls of Florida Atlantic improved their record to 4-7-2, 1-2-1 after ending the afternoon with a win over Temple (4-9-0, 0-4-0) for their first American win of the season. The Owls started with sophomore Ashley Small in goal.
Senior Leila Etemadi found Hailey Santiago for her first assist of her career, just in front of the net. Santiago scored her fourth goal of the season to take the lead early for Florida Atlantic, 1-0, in the eighth minute of the match. Temple came back and scored the equalizer off a corner kick with eight minutes left in the first half.
FAU made a goalkeeper switch in goal for the second half, with Megan Hogate in net for the last 45 minutes. Madison Micioni and Santiago connected with graduate student Sloane Young, who scored her seventh goal of the season for a new career-high to take back the lead with a score of 2-1. Senior Daniella Diaz then recorded her first goal of the season to extend the lead for FAU 3-1.
Temple scored its second goal to cut the deficit, but Florida Atlantic held on. The Owls of FAU totaled seven shots on the day.
