GREENVILLE, N.C – The Florida Atlantic women's soccer team finished the night in a 2-2 draw against East Carolina on Thursday evening.
The Owls (4-7-3, 1-2-2) took on the Pirates (4-4-3, 2-1-1) on Thursday evening in another American Conference matchup on the road. For the first time in program history, the Owls tied against the Pirates to improve their record to 0-4-1.
Sophomore
Ashley Small started in goal for the tenth time this season. The Owls have kept the same starting lineup for the past three matches. 17 minutes into the match, forward
Hailey Santiago took her first shot which resulted in a save by the Pirates. The Owls recorded two shots in the first 45 minutes, both by Santiago, to end the first half tied 0-0. Small registered three saves on the night to add to her season total of 32.
To start the second half, Florida Atlantic had a change in the net as graduate student
Megan Hogate went in for Small to close out the match. In the 53rd minute,
Sloane Young connected with senior
Michelle Horan for the first goal of the match. Her strike at the top of the net was her second goal of the season. 12 minutes later, Santiago connected with the top right corner of the net to build a 2-0 lead, improving her season total to five goals. The Pirates answered back a minute later to cut the deficit. East Carolina tied the match at 2-2 with less than ten minutes left.
The Pirates outshot the Owls 12-7 and 6-5 shots on goal. 16 different Owls saw the pitch, with four players (
Daniella Diaz,
Kayla Siddiqi,
Morgan McDonald, and
Stella Rubidoux) playing all 90 minutes..
