Five-Match Road Swing Looms Ahead

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic men's tennis team has played a competitive 2024 schedule, including two matches at the ITA Kickoff hosted by Virginia, the back-to-back national champions. It doesn't get easier for the Owls, who this week will play three on the road against teams that collectively hold a 38-19 record versus Florida Atlantic.
FAU will first travel to Orlando, Fla. playing at the USTA National Tennis Center (Lake Nono), on Thursday, Feb. 8. The Knights are 5-0 on the season and hold a 20-5 mark versus the Owls. Florida Atlantic will then travel to Mobile, Alabama to face South Alabama, on Saturday, Feb. 10. With an Owl win the series will even at 8-8. FAU proved the 5-2 victor over the Jaguars a year ago. Then it is off to Atlanta, Georgia to face Georgia State. The Panthers hold the series at 10-7, but the Owls are on a two-match winning streak and captured the match last season by a 6-1 score.
Despite the strength of schedule, FAU has impressively built a 6-2 record and will rely upon the rackets of transfers Juan Martin Jalif and John Bernard to lead the team. Jailf is undefeated in dual match play (7-0). Bernard is 5-1 while Alberto Colas is 5-2 on court one and Mark Havlicek stands with a 5-3 record.
Doubles play has been a Florida Atlantic bright spot with the duo of Jiri Jenicek and Simon Myslivec, both newcomers to FAU, holding a 6-2 dual match doubles record while the team of Colas and Jalif are 5-2 on the season.
