BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University men's tennis will enter Friday's 3 p.m. match versus Brown ranked No. 58 nationally. Much of that success as well as their rapid ascension to No. 35 in 2021-22 was made possible by the eight young men who the Owls will celebrate prior to Friday's match as part of "Senior Day.".
The Owls will honor eight in total:
Nicolas Acevedo,
Gerard Escandell, Alvaro Fernandez,
Kevin Huempfner,
Nicolas Jadoun,
Filip Krolo,
Hunter Robbins and
Finn Stodder.
Fernandez Horta joined FAU in 2018-19, a season that he was 17-5 in dual match play. He has an overall career record of 55-43, including a record of 49-44. Friday's contest will be his 99th match as an Owl. He has taken the courts 70 times with a partner and olds an all-time double record of 38-39.
Huempfner transferred to the Owls and has made the most of his FAU collegiate career by tallying an overall record of 41-25 and a dual match record of 32-19. His double game has been just as impressive, with an overall career mark of 49-19 and a dual match record of 37-17. Huempfner regularly draws ranked opponents and has been recognized by Conference USA coaches, receiving second team honors in 2021-22. He has also garnered C-USA player of the week honors.
Robbins joined his hometown team in 2018-19, primarily seeing time on the doubles court until his outstanding 2022-23 season posting a 14-6 overall record and a 9-4 mark in dual match competition. Robbins holds an overall career doubles record of 44-16, including a dual doubles record of 35-15. He has tallied a 19-9 career overall singles mark, including a 13-5 career dual match singles record.
Krolo came to FAU in the 2019-20 season. His focus has primarily been with doubles play. However, he has seen action in 15 singles matches in 2022-23. Krolo holds a 41-29 overall doubles record, including a 32-27 record in dual match play. He and doubles partner Acevedo advanced to the 2022 ITA Fall National Championship.
Stodder's first season at FAU was in 2020-2021. He has tallied a 29-19 career overall record and is 24-13 in dual matches. He has contributed a 27-20 career record in doubles, including a 21-17 record in dual matches.
Jadoun is in his third season as an Owl where his primary focus has been with singles play. Jadoun holds a 14-16, including 10-11 in dual match play.
Escandell came to FAU in 2019-20. and has built a 23-17 career mark.
Acevedo is the newest member of the Owls, joining the team in the Fall of 2022. He currently holds a singles record of 6-7, 5-6 in dual match play, but advanced with
Filip Krolo to the ITA Fall National Championship.
This group of eight will come into their final match at home holding an 11-9 mark while Brown is 13-8. FAU is led by
Joao Graca, who is 10-5 in the dual season, Robbins, who enters with a 9-4 record and Huempfner, who is 7-6. Graca and Krolo lead the way in doubles play with a 6-3 record.
Brown holds the all-time series at 5-2, but the Owls captured their last meeting, March 29, 2019, by the score of 4-1.
