BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team concluded their opening weekend of the 2023 indoor season at the Vulcan Invitational on Saturday. The Owls were able to build on their momentum from Friday's record setting day with more solid performances and entries into the top 10 school record books.

"Great way to open the season! The athletes have been patiently waiting to open the indoor season and started with impressive performances. Two new school records, 10 new personal bests, and multiple top five finishes. This blend of returners and newcomers have collectively motivated each other to start the indoor season with a bang. We are excited for the future and to pursue the continuous goal of Winning in Paradise!"

- Cara Simpson continued to lead the way for the Florida Atlantic Owls with a fourth place finish in both the 60m finals (7.62) and 200m finals (24.87). Her time in the 60m is ninth in school history
- Jessica Lambert had another excellent afternoon, highlighted by a fourth place finish in the 400m (57.47)
- The freshmen continued to impress, this time in the 800m. Rosa ten Berg finished in third place with a time of 2:17.52 and Adrianna Mier finished with a time of 2:24.42
- Elyssa Toal (5:14.54) and Jordan Stevens (5:16.08) finished eighth and ninth place, respectively, in the mile run
- Anabell Reumann earned sixth place in the 3000m (10:25.07)
- Abrayia Elam finished in eighth place in the 200m with a personal best time of 25.40. Melissa Mundell also set a personal best in the same event with a time of 26.28
- The 4x400 relay 'A' team (Simpson, Promise Cross, Lambert, Melissa Mundell) finished in third place with a time of 3:52.86Â
The Owls are will next head to Gainesville to compete in the RADD Sports Invitational from Jan. 19-20.
