BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team began their 2023 indoor season with the Blazer Invite on Friday. It was a successful season opener for the Florida Atlantic Owls, with two school records being broken by
Cara Simpson and
Jessica Lambert. Overall, 12 Owls found themselves placed into the top 10 school record books.

"Today was a very good day! Any time you can put 11 performances onto the all-time records, you have to be excited about the performances as a whole. Considering this is only the first meet of the season and how well the team performed and executed, we are extremely excited for what's to come."
- Simpson picked up right where she left off from last track season, setting an FAU record in the 300m (40.67). She was followed behind by Abraiya Elam with a time of 41.19, fifth best time in school history.
- Lambert crushed the previous school record in the 500m by almost three seconds (1:14.2) Eriana Teague also had a strong showing in this event, with the fourth best time in FAU history (1:18.51), along with Promise Cross who had the fifth best time in school history (1:20.27)
- Freshman Rosa ten Berg, in her debut with the Owls, won the 600m with a time of (1:35.64), third best in FAU history. Freshman Adrianna Mier also made her mark with a time of 1:41.34, seventh all time in school history
- Elyssa Total recorded a time of 3:02.27 in the 1000m, a fifth-place finish and third best time in school history. Leah Helms offered the ninth best time in the FAU record books (3:10.95)
- Melissa Mundell's time in the 300m (42.20) is ninth best in FAU history
- Dahlia Barnes kicked off her season with a new personal best in the long jump with a score of 5.21
- The 4x200 relay team (Barnes, Breyanna Chambliss, Mundell, Teague) finished with a time of 1:42.85, second best in FAU history.
The Owls will compete tomorrow at the Vulcan Invitational, also hosted by UAB.
