BOCA RATON, Fla. – As the No. 3 seed in the tournament draw, Florida Atlantic University men's tennis begins Conference USA Championship play in Charlotte on Friday, in the quarterfinal round against sixth-seeded Southern Miss. The Owls come in to postseason play ranked No. 64 nationally in the ITA computerized rankings.
Owls' Week in Review
The Owls (8-10) finished off the regular season with two home wins in two days against Temple, with each day's clinching point coming courtesy of
Maxime Lapraille – the latter of which came on his Senior Day. The team's No. 1 for all but one match this season, Lapraille posted six wins in that spot.
Kevin Huempfner, with 10 wins (including four at No. 2 and five at No. 3), paces the squad, followed by
Alvaro Fernandez Horta and
Finn Stodder with eight victories each.
Owls' Weekend in Preview
Southern Miss (7-2) saw its last two matches canceled, and has not played since April 11, a loss to South Alabama – a team that FAU beat twice this season. Prior to that result, the Golden Eagles had won their previous three matches, but also saw two postponements over that span, and in fact, 13 total postponements/cancelations throughout the year. The team leader in victories is Christopher Cahour with nine, splitting time between courts two, three and four, while three other members of the squad shared the No. 1 slot.
