Owls Within Striking Distance of First After Day 2 of CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming & diving team is within 50 points of Gardner Webb after two nights at the 2021 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming & Diving Championships. FAU sits in second place with 681 points, while Gardner Webb leads with 731. The Owls logged three gold, four silver and three bronze medals Saturday night at Liberty Natatorium.

The Owls will take on day the third and final day of the CCSA Championships tomorrow in hopes of claiming the conference title. Prelims commence at 10 a.m. and finals follow at 6 p.m. along with the final trophy presentation. Quick Hits
- The 400 medley relay team earned second place with a time of 3:16.81. Kyle Douglas, Adan Diaz, Alec Peckmann and Jackson Kirk were behind the finish
- FAU swept once again in diving. Logan Downey won the gold medal on the 1-meter (316.30) to win the event for the third consecutive year, while sweeping on both boards. Charlie Greene followed with the silver (224.45), as did Michael Cannatelli with the bronze (224.40)
- In the 100 fly, Lucas Kelly led the way in sixth (50.37) followed by Skyler Hamilton in eighth (50.84)
- Peckmann racked up another medal, this time in the 400 IM, where his time of 3:57.42 helped him tally the bronze. Will Smith (4:03.60) and Jack Shapiro (4:08.93) finished the race seventh and ninth, respectively
- Josh Fountain delivered a big swim in the 200 free, earning the gold medal with a time of 1:39.98. Kirk also logged his first individual championship medal with the silver (1:41.16). Clay Riemenschneider tallied fourth in the race (1:41.39)
- Adan Diaz just missed the podium stand in the 100 breast with a time of 56.01 to tally fourth. Carter Januzelli (56.64) and Will Henderson (57.33) recorded fifth and sixth, respectively
- Douglas made his way to the podium in the 100 back following a bronze medal (49.28). Reilly Maguire tallied eighth in the finals (51.56)
- The Owls ended the night with a silver medal in the 200 free relay, as Kirk, Peter Tanner, Jr., Henderson and Peckmann swam the race in 1:22.08
