BOCA RATON, Fla. – The incoming class for Florida Atlantic University women's soccer continues to grow, with the latest announced addition being freshman Fabiola Menendez.
Menendez comes from nearby Weston, Florida, and Cypress Bay High School, where she played both forward and midfield. For two straight years, the Lightning were state finalists, including an undefeated junior season all the way up to the championship match. She amassed 18 goals and 22 assists and was named to the All-Broward girls' soccer team. Additionally, Menendez suited up for Sunrise Prime FC.
Why Menendez chose FAU:
"Committing to Florida Atlantic University was one of the best decisions I have made, especially for my soccer career," said Menendez. "I have been training with one of the best college teams and coaching staffs all fall. I have learned so much and I still have a lot more areas I can improve upon. Seeing my growth and development these past three months gets me really excited to continue working hard. Attending FAU has given me opportunities to be able to succeed in my soccer career, which is very important to me."
Baker on Menendez:
"We are excited to have Fabi join the women's soccer program and feel she has a lot to offer," said head coach Patrick Baker. "She possesses good speed and quickness with the ability to help is in a number of the front five attacking spots. Fabi has been a forward predominately as a youth player – she has a track record of creating chances and scoring goals which we need this year. She adds to the growing list of highly touted in-state players that have chosen to continue their careers at Florida Atlantic University."
