BOCA RATON, Fla. – The number of incoming players for Florida Atlantic University women's soccer continues to grow, with Monday's addition of freshman forward Pernille Eide, from Norway, bringing the class to seven.
Eide has a plethora of international experience in her home country, having made it to the finals of the Norway Cup, the world's largest youth soccer tournament. Too, the Bergen, Norway native also advanced to the finals of the Dana Cup. She debuted for the second highest level of soccer in Norway at age 17, and the year following, was named Best Young Player of the season.
Why Eide chose FAU:
"I was convinced that FAU was the right choice for me from the first time I spoke with Coach Baker. The way he introduced the school, the team and the state of Florida, I felt like this is home to me. FAU is family even before I`ve met the coaches, teammates and staff. Coming from abroad, these variables hit me hard, in a positive way. I look so forward to join FAU, be a part of it all, and play an important role on and off the field."
Baker on Eide:
"We are excited to announce that Norwegian forward Pernille Eide has signed with Florida Atlantic University today," said head coach Patrick Baker. "Pernille is a very talented young lady and we can't wait to have her here in Boca Raton. She has real pace and quickness – Pernille will be a threat up top or wide in the midfield for us. She possesses a great work ethic and is committed on both sides of the ball. When I first spoke to her on the phone, she was someone that we knew right away would be a great addition to the program. With two talented Norwegians graduating this Spring from our team – in Tiril Haga and Pernille Velta – it is nice to bring a new one."
Eide, a 5-3 striker, joins six other newcomers that have thus far been announced: forward Gabi Cimino, defender Madeline Crowe and midfielder Katie Houston (link), goalkeeper Amit Cohen (link), forward Natalie Mangayi (link) and defender Teagan Duenkel (link).
