BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's soccer team heads to Alabama Thursday night, taking on American Conference foe UAB. The Owls' (3-3-4, 1-0-0) first road test in league play comes against the Blazers (3-5-1, 0-1-0) at 8 p.m. Eastern at PNC Field, and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
ABOUT THE OWLS
- The Owls' first American result was a thriller, a 3-2 comeback win over Charlotte at home last Thursday night.
- After a lengthy delay and a first half that saw the 49ers score twice, two goals in quick succession by Hailey Santiago tied the game less than six minutes into the second half.
- The game-winner came courtesy of the first collegiate goal from freshman forward Amelia Hillman, in the 84th minute, and the Owls' defense and goalkeeper Lily Holden made the slim advantage hold up.
- Reigning American Offensive Player of the Week Santiago moved back atop the American goal leaderboard, tied with North Texas' Claire Niedermeier with nine each. Adding in her two assists, Santiago has the points lead outright with 20.
- She is sixth nationally in goals, and ninth among all DI players in points.
- The Owls continue to rank among the team leaders in conference in goals (third with 19), saves (tied for first with 48) and save percentage (second at .750).
ABOUT THE BLAZERS
- UAB had won its last two non-conference matchups but fell in its American opener to Temple on the road, 2-0.
- Forward Avery Berryman leads the team with three goals and two assists.
- The team has seen a split in the net, with Macie Murphy logging five starts and Leah Parsons with four. Murphy has two of the team's three wins and its only clean sheet.
- The Blazers finished in a three-way tie for third in the American last year, a 4-3-3 league mark for 15 points. A 2-1 loss to UTSA in the quarterfinal round ended the team's season.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The teams have played virtually every year since 2012, with the Owls holding a series advantage of 7-3-2. The Blazers have been successful of late, 3-0-1 since 2022, including a 2-0 win in Boca Raton last season.
