Owls' Weekend in Review
The Owls (27-12, 14-4) continue to keep pace atop the Conference USA ledger, tied currently with Southern Miss with four league series to go. A 3-1 week, beginning with a Tuesday victory over UCF and ending with two wins in the three-game set at WKU, improved FAU to 9-5 on the road this season. Joe Montes earned C-USA Hitter of the Week for his exploits, and is now up to .338 on the year with a team-best 31 RBI, with those numbers 10th and 11th among league hitters, respectively. Zach Schneider had saves in all three wins, giving him 10 on the season, already eighth highest ever on FAU's single-season list, and currently ranking him first in C-USA and seventh in Division I. He now also has 25 saves in his career, vaulting him past Cameron Ragsdale and into second place all-time in program history, just six away from tying Hugh Adams for the No. 1 spot.
Â
Owls' Midweek in Preview
Florida (26-16, 7-11 SEC) lost two of three this past weekend at LSU, and are just 1-8 in league play on the road this season. Additionally, in midweek games, the Gators started out the year losing three of the first four, but have won their last six to improve to 9-4. Losses early came on the road to USF and at home against North Florida, UCF and Florida Gulf Coast. The team's top hitter thus far has been Brady McConnell, at .369 with nine home runs and 34 RBI.
Â
Midweek Probable Starting Pitching Matchup
FAU – Dylan Carter, Jr. RHP (1-0, 3.90) vs. UF – Nolan Crisp, Fr. RHP (3-1, 4.61)
Â
Opponent History
Florida leads the all-time series, 21-8, and in a contest in Week Two of last year's regular season, topped the Owls, 6-1. The two teams went then go on to be part of the same regional at last year's NCAA Tournament, and in a win-or-go-home game, FAU prevailed, 7-4, to force another matchup to determine the Gainesville champion. In the regional final, despite the Owls scoring twice in the first inning, the Gators would notch the comeback win to advance, 5-2.
