BOCA RATON, Fla. – After a week in which he hit .462 with two home runs and at least an RBI in each game, Florida Atlantic University third baseman
Joe Montes has been named Conference USA Hitter of the Week.
Montes had three multi-hit outings, and an RBI in all four games, during a 3-1 road week for the Owls. He batted .462 (6-for-13), with six RBI, two runs scored and two home runs. In the team's midweek win over UCF, he had two sacrifice flies, the second going as the game-winning RBI.
The Stockton, California native then began the series against WKU with a 2-for-3 night in the opener, with another sac fly and RBI. He hit a home run in the middle matchup, as part of another 2-for-3 night, and added another homer in the finale. In the series clincher, he was 2-for-5, walked once, scored once, and had two RBI, including a key go-ahead single late.
Defensively on the week, Montes also played a great third base, handling 10 chances flawlessly, including eight on the WKU turf. He's now batting .338 on the year, has 11 doubles and four home runs, and leads the 27-12 Owls with 31 runs batted in.
Montes becomes the third weekly conference honoree for FAU this year, joining fellow Hitter of the Week
Francisco Urbaez (March 18) and Pitcher of the Week
Mike Ruff (April 1). The Owls take on Florida Tuesday night in Gainesville before returning home for a weekend set versus Old Dominion starting Friday. Tickets can be had by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS or going to
