BOCA RATON, Fla. – The month-long road trip for the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis continues when the Owls compete as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend in Gainesville on Saturday and Sunday. First up is a match on Saturday morning against Louisville.
Owl Review
Last weekend in Orlando, the Owls (3-3) came away with a split, winning over UNCW and falling to BYU. Two days later, Miami topped the squad in Coral Gables. Over the course of the three matches,
Ignacio Garcia and
Alvaro Fernandez Horta each picked up two singles wins, and Garcia and
Jason Legall, in the No. 1 doubles slot, notched a win over UM. Fernandez Horta has now won four singles matches in a row to lead the squad.
Owl Preview
FAU is part of a four-team pod in Gainesville, one of 15 scattered across the nation. No. 4 Florida is the host team, and will take on William & Mary at 11 a.m. Saturday. At that same time, the Owls tangle with Louisville.
The Cardinals (3-1) and Owls will meet for the first time ever in the quarterfinal matchup Saturday morning. UofL is also coming off a three-match weekend, defeating Butler and Lipscomb, but losing to No. 17 Virginia.
The winners advance to Sunday's championship (also at 11 a.m.), while the consolation match will be Sunday at 9 a.m. The team that wins out in Gainesville will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, to be held in Chicago, Feb. 15-18.
