GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team posted a clean sweep of Louisville on Saturday, 4-0, in the opening round of the Gainesville portion of ITA Kickoff Weekend. Coupled with host Florida's win over William & Mary, the Owls and Gators will play in Sunday's championship at 11 a.m.
Notables:
- The Owls (4-3) started the day off of on the right foot by gaining the doubles point, winning two of three. The No. 3 pairing of Kirac Bekisoglu and Thomas Guy got the first win, 6-2
- After a loss in the No. 2 matchup, the top-seed combo of Jason Legall and Ignacio Garcia earned the early lead with a 6-4 decision
- Singles won three in a row for the shutout victory. First was Alvaro Fernandez Horta at No. 6, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1
- Another straight-set win came at No. 2, with Bekisoglu topping his opposition, 7-5, 6-2
- The final point of the match came via No. 1, with Legall outlasting Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff (brother of current Owl Ivan and former Owl Andrei), 6-3, 4-6, 6-1=
