CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team fell on Monday afternoon to Miami, 6-1, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The decision evens up the Owls' record on the early season at 3-3.
Notables:
- The No. 6 singles matchup was the final result of the day, with Alvaro Fernandez Horta going toe-to-toe with Kaya Gore, battling to the third set and super tiebreaker. When all was said and done, Fernandez Horta came out on top in extra points in that super tiebreak, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (14-12)
- At the very beginning of the day, some three hours earlier, the Owls' No. 1 doubles pairing of Jason Legall and Ignacio Garcia knocked off their UM counterparts, 6-3. However, Hurricanes took the other two matchups to go up 1-0 early
- Legall clashed with Adria Soriano Barrera in the top singles draw, and broke the No. 21 player late in the first set, but fell in two, 6-4, 6-1
- At No. 2, Kirac Bekisoglu took No. 35 Bojan Jankulovski to tiebreak, falling 7-5 in the first; it would also finish in straight sets (7-5, 6-2)
- Mehdi Laalej had drawn even at No. 4, winning the second set, 6-2, but was edged out in the third in the day's other super tiebreaker, by Dane Dunlap, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3)

The Owls will have their seventh and eighth straight road matches (of what will eventually be 10 to start the spring) this upcoming weekend in Gainesville. It is part of ITA Kickoff Weekend. Saturday, FAU will take on Louisville at 11 a.m., and then, dependent on the result, play either the hosts, No. 4 Florida, or William & Mary on Sunday with the start time TBD.
