Joined Florida Atlantic University’s football staff in the spring of 2019 after a NFL career as both a player and coach. While at FAU, Harris will focus his attention on defense as an assistant.
Kansas City Chiefs
Harris comes to FAU after serving as a defensive backs coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, a position he held from 2013-2018. The Coconut Creek, Florida native was a member of Kansas City’s staff that guided the Chiefs to the 2018 AFC Championship and were a part of the playoffs each of the six seasons he was with the team.
Miami Dolphins
Harris began his coaching career in 2012 with the Miami Dolphins as a coaching intern, under then-Head Coach Joe Philbin.
NFL Playing Career
Harris played 15 seasons in the National Football league from 1998-2011. He was a 1997 sixth round draft pick by Tampa Bay, but worked on the Buccaneers’ practice squad. He played 194 games with 128 NFL starts, while playing for St. Louis (one season), Miami (one season), Green Bay (seven seasons), and his last five were in Philadelphia, before he announced his retirement in 2012.
Harris was a selected to play in the Pro Bowl after his 2006 and 2007 seasons and was named by AP as a Second Team All-Pro in 2007. He tallied 468 tackles, 21 interceptions, 407 yards of return and three scores.
Collegiate Career
He was a two-year starter for Texas A&M-Kingsville from 1995-96 and was a First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection in 1996. His first two seasons of collegiate football were played at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, where he was a member of a National Championship team.
