BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women's soccer lifts the lid on American Conference play on Thursday night, when the Owls (2-3-4) host Charlotte (4-3-0) at 7 p.m. at FAU Soccer Stadium. The match will be streamed for free on FAUSports.com.
Prior to the start of the contest, fans can take part in a Fall Festival entering into the stadium. There will be fall foods and candy – including a limited number of donuts to fans who arrive early – along with crafts and other fun family activities. The giveaway of the night will be tickets to Saturday's Shula Bowl XXIV, the annual rivalry football game between Florida Atlantic and FIU.
ABOUT THE OWLS
- The Owls wrapped non-conference play with two matches in North Dakota, playing to a 1-1 draw to North Dakota State, and a 2-0 loss against North Dakota.
- In nine out-of-conference contests, nine different Owls found their way into the scoring column via goals or assists, and 15 have played in every game.
- Hailey Santiago (seven goals, two assists, 16 points), Lola Hathorne (three goals, three assists, nine points) and Maiya Castillo (three goals for six points) pace the point column.
- Santiago's seven goals ranks second, two behind the league leader in the American, and she trails in points by just two as well. Castillo and Hathorne are among a group tied for fourth in goals, and Hathorne is tied for third in assists and in total points as well.
- In the conference ledger as a team, the Owls are tied for second in total goals and are third in goals per match. The squad's goalkeeping corps is second in saves and third in save percentage.
ABOUT THE 49ERS
- Charlotte has alternated losses and wins since a 2-0 start. Their last tuneup before league play was a 2-0 loss last Thursday against UNCW.
- The 49ers were voted sixth in the American Preseason Coaches Poll after last year's 10-6-2 finish. Its three "Players to Watch" were forward Evie Craven, defender Rachel Logue and goalkeeper Harlee Head.
- Craven is tied for fourth in the league with 26 shot attempts, but has not been able to convert a goal thus far after recording five a year ago. Head is third in the American with 28 saves in her five starts.
- In her second season, Sinead Byrne holds a 14-9-2 record as head coach of the 49ers.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Owls hold an 8-3-3 all-time advantage in the series. FAU posted a 6-0-2 mark from 2019 to 2024, but the 49ers snapped that streak with a 3-1 win last season in Charlotte.
