BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team fell to Tulsa in five innings by a 9-1 score on Friday evening.
Despite a strong opening in the circle from senior pitcher
Autumn Courtney, the Owls (27-17, 8-11) conceded eight runs in the final two innings for the run-rule loss against the Golden Hurricane (17-24, 8-11).
THE BEGINNING
Courtney delivered three strikeouts in the top of the first to retire the side. After giving up a solo home run in the top of the second, she struck out two more batters and induced a groundout to limit the damage.
Back-to-back single in the bottom of the third put two Owls on base, but two straight outs prevented their chances of scoring.
THE TURNING POINT
The game remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth, with an RBI double was soon followed by a three-run home run to extend Tulsa's lead.
Florida Atlantic loaded the bases in the bottom half and found its only run of the game with sophomore outfielder
Bella Foran drawing a walk. The bases remained loaded with the potential tying run at the plate, but a strikeout ended the inning.
THE FINISH
Three singles led to Tulsa adding four more runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
Senior catcher
Chloe Yeatts reached base on a walk, but it was not enough for the Owls to avoid the run rule.
NOTES/NOTABLE
