Owls Prep for First American Road Test

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For just the second time this season, the Florida Atlantic football team will board a plane for an out of state matchup, when FAU heads to Houston to face Rice on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The game, slated for a 7 p.m. ET start, will be the first American Conference road test and will air on ESPN+. The two programs are familiar with each other, playing five previous times, three in Houston. Rice earned the 24-21 victory in the last meeting back on November 25, 2023.
It also will mark the return to Texas for first-year FAU Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Zach Kittley. Kittley was raised in the state and has spent 11 of his 13-year coaching career in the Lone Star State.
Caden Veltkamp is expected to lead the Owls' offense. Veltkamp is 121-189 on the season for 1198 yards and has tossed eight touchdowns. The redshirt junior QB is listed nationally in seven categories and is tops in both the conference and nationally in completions per game (30.25). He is ninth nationwide in total offense (311.8 yards per game).
Veltkamp has spread the ball to 18 different receivers with two primary contacts being redshirt junior Easton Messer, who has 37 catches for 363 yards and redshirt junior Jayshon Platt who has 19 catches for 247 yards. The duo have one score each while redshirt sophomore Asaad Waseem has a team-leading three TDs. Redshirt junior LB Leon Hart Jr. leads the squad with 24 tackles in three games, while redshirt senior DB Dillion Williams is second on the squad with 22 tackles through four games.
