BOCA RATON, Fla. - The nationally ranked No. 45 Florida Atlantic men's tennis team will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for their first American Athletic Conference championship as a No. 3 seed. The Owls will play a quarterfinal match on Friday, April 19 at 10 a.m. versus the winner of Thursday's first round match between Temple (No. 11)Â and Charlotte (No. 6). The AAC championship is the first for the Owls.
Florida Atlantic will enter Friday's match with a 16-6 record while Temple enters the tournament with a 7-13 mark while Charlotte is 15-7 on the season. While it would be the first meeting between FAU and Temple, Florida Atlantic is familiar with Charlotte. Charlotte took the all-time series lead last February at 4-3 with a 5-2 win in Boca Raton.
The Owls are led by a group of seniors that have worked to build a ranked resume in 2024. Albert Colas has anchored the team on court #1 and holds a 12-5 singles record, all in dual match play.
John Bernard is 17-4 on the year and 12-4 this spring, while fellow transfer
Juan Martin Jalif will enter the championship with a 14-5 record, including a 13-3 record in dual match play. Newcomer
Jiri Jenicek enters the tourney with a 14-8 record, including a 10-7 mark this spring. Doubles play has been a match determiner for the Owls. Colas is 12-6 in the doubles season while three others come in with double-digit dual match wins including
Simon Myslivec (14-6), Jalif (12-6), and Jenick (11-5).
