TULSA, Okla. – The Florida Atlantic men's tennis team, ranked No. 45 nationally and playing as the American Athletic Conference Championships' No. 3 seed, fell to Charlotte, who entered the tournament ranked No. 64 nationally and as the tournament's No. 6 seed, by a 4-3 margin.

Florida Atlantic, who moved to 16-7 on the year, earned a first-round bye based on rank and resume, but squared off against Charlotte, who defeated Temple 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinals and now FAU.

The doubles team of Joao Graca and Simon Myslivec made quick work of securing a win on doubles court #2 with a 6-0 win. The duo was followed by the team of John Bernard and Mark Havlicek, who captured court #3 by a 6-3 score. The two FAU wins clinched the doubles point for the Owls and ended the play of Alberto Colas and Juan Martin Jalif, who were trailing 4-2 on court #1.

Colas then put the Owls up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 dominating win on the top court. That 2-0 lead was cut in half by Charlotte who won 6-3, 6-3 on court #5. FAU's Graca got the lead back with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court #3 and pulled the Owls within one point of securing the match at 3-1. Charlotte wins on courts #6 and #2 evened the score at 3-3 and turned attention to court #4 where Havlicek found himself in a battle. The freshman captured his first set by a 7-5 score and saw a nip-and-tuck second set go to Charlotte by a 6-4 score. The 49ers then took the third set and the match by a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 score, ending FAU's advancing hopes.
