TAMPA, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's men's tennis team, ranked No. 45 nationally, traveled to Tampa on Wednesday where they played American Athletic Conference member and host USF in a non-conference contest. The Owls proved to be the 4-2 winner and will take that momentum into the weekend with two road matches as a final tune-up before the AAC Championship.
The match began with Florida Atlantic taking the early lead with wins on doubles courts #2 and #3. USF matched the score with a win on court #2, but it was short lived with FAU's
John Bernard straight-set win on court #6, a lead that
Juan Martin Jalif would build upon with a court #4 win. USF would take court #3, but it would be the last point they would record, playing under clinch rules. FAU's
Mark Havlicek closed out the match on court #5 with a 6-0, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4 victory.
Florida Atlantic's record moves to 15-5 on the year.
