WICHITA, Kan. – The Florida Atlantic softball team won their inaugural series in the American Athletic Conference thanks to a historic 17-5 victory over Wichita State on Sunday afternoon.
It was a performance for the ages for
Trinity Schlotterbeck, who set the single-game program record in home runs (3) as well as RBI (9) and added a strong pitching performance. The Owls took the final game of the three-game road series.
The Owls were scoring right off the bat, loading the bases in the top of the first before
Jesiana Mora cleared all three with a triple to right field. Schlotterbeck then stepped up for her first of four successful at bats with a two-run home run for a 5-0 score.
Wichita State responded with a two-run shot of their own before Schlotterbeck moved to pitcher, retiring the first three batters faced.
Scores continued in bunches for Florida Atlantic, next in the third inning. Mora and Schlotterbeck stepped up with back-to-back RBI doubles. This was followed up in the very next inning with a Schlotterbeck grand slam to bring the score to 12-3.
Mora and Schlotterbeck's day-long dominance was not done, with the former adding an RBI double in the top of the sixth, followed by a hat trick homer from the latter.
Zoey Jones added her third home run of the year, a two-run hit to right field, for the fifth and sixth runs of the inning and 17th on the day.
