BOCA RATON, Fla. – Thanks to a pair of shutouts in the circle and timely late-game hitting, the Florida Atlantic softball team finished the Joan Joyce Classic with victories over Michigan, 1-0, and Seton Hall, 10-0, on Saturday at the FAU Softball Stadium.
It was scoreless until the sixth inning when Kiley Channell got things started for FAU by leading off with a single to right. Kamryn Jackson moved her over with a sacrifice bunt and Zoey Jones later delivered the eventual winning hit when she ripped a single to center that scored Channell.
The Owls opened a 4-0 lead in the second inning and run-ruled the Pirates thanks to a six-run fifth inning. Gabby Sacco improved to 3-1 in the circle by scattering two hits over five innings with two strikeouts.
Schlotterback beat the Wolverines on April 14, 2022 as a member of the Terrapins – throwing a complete game and allowing one run with four strikeouts.Of Florida Atlantic's eight wins this season, three have come via shutout – including two tonight.
"To have Trinity and Gabby, who going into the season wanted to be our No. 1 and No. 2 starters, show up and pitch two complete-game shutouts was really big for our program. Trinity set the tone in that first game – Michigan is a really good team, and Seton Hall was in a Regional last year and won 42 games. I'm proud of the way they both showed up." – head coach Jordan Clark
