BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic volleyball picked up another AAC sweep on Sunday, defeating the Temple Owls in straight sets, 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-23)
The Owls improve to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in AAC play, while Temple falls to 11-15 on the season and 3-9 in conference play.
Florida Atlantic held a slight advantage early in the first, leading 7-5, before scoring four unanswered to hold an 11-5 advantage at the first timeout of the contest. The Owls maintained the momentum out of the timeout, going on a 5-1 run, capped off by an over-pass kill from
Victoria Hensley to spark Temple's second timeout of the opening set, 16-6. The Owls didn't let off the gas, stacking kills with Temple errors to close out the set on a 9-5 run to take the opening frame, 25-11.
The Owls jumped out to a 5-3 lead to open the second, but Temple responded with a 7-2 run to take a 10-7 lead. The Owls responded with three-straight points, capped off by back-to-back kills from
Katelynn Robine to even the set at 10-10. The Owls held a two-point advantage at the media timeout, 15-13, before producing a 3-1 run to take a four-point advantage and spark a Temple timeout, 18-14. Temple rallied to close the deficit to one, 21-20, however, the Owls capitalized on three Temple errors and a kill from
Kaila Ru to capture the second, 25-21, and take the two-point lead, 2-0.
The two squads battled through a 9-9 tie to open up the third, but Temple then went on a 6-1 run to lead 15-10 at the third-set media timeout. Temple held a six-point advantage at 21-15, but the Owls were clutch down the stretch, scoring seven unanswered to retake the lead 22-21. Temple registered a kill to bring things even at 22 each, but the unrelenting Owls finished the rally, outscoring Temple 3-1 to close out the set, 25-23, and capture the sweep.
- Katelynn Robine led the Owls offensively, tying for a match-high 16 kills and turning in an impressive .359 hitting clip.
- Victoria Hensley dished out a team-leading 32 assists and registered her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs.
- Madison Dyer had an impressive all-around performance in the win, recording a match-leading seven blocks, tying her season high, and adding seven kills on a match-high .429 hitting clip.
- Isabelle Northam finished with a match-leading 16 digs.
The Owls will now prepare to head out on their final road trip of the regular season as they head to the Lone Star State for a pair of matchups against North Texas on Nov. 8 and UTSA on Nov. 10.
