MIAMI – Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team fell to the Hurricanes by a 1-0 score in a non-conference Sunday matchup.
The Owls move to 2-7-3 overall after playing on a wet field after an all-day rain in Miami. This marked the second time these two teams have faced each other this season. Florida Atlantic moves to 8-10-3 against the Hurricanes program history.
Captain goalkeeper
Lexi Gonzalez started in the net for the Owls and recorded four saves in the first 26 minutes of the match. Gonzalez finished the first half with five saves, which moved her to 25 on the year. She now totals 128 saves in her career as an Owl, raking No. 9 in program history in saves. The Owls held the match to 0-0 in the first 45 minutes.
To start the second half, there was a change at the net as freshman
Ashley Small went in to close out the last 45 minutes. In the 55th minute of the match, Miami scored to take the 1-0 lead. Small recorded two saves to improve her number to 10 for her freshman campaign. The two goalkeepers registered seven saves combined as Florida Atlantic held the Hurricanes to only one goal on the night.
The Owls return home to face Rice in Paradise for the first time since moving to the American Athletic Conference on Thursday, Oct. 10. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+. All home games at the FAU Soccer Stadium are free admission.
