PHILADELPHIA – Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team recorded a 3-0 shutout of the Temple Owls on the road on Thursday evening.
The Owls improve to 3-9-4, 2-4-2 AAC after facing Temple on Thursday evening. This marked the second time these two teams have faced each other in program history. FAU now remains undefeated against Temple. Florida Atlantic also added another shutout to the season sheet, their fifth of the year.
For the Owls of Florida Atlantic, the starting lineup was a little different, with the addition of junior
Morgan McDonald joining the starting XI. 15 minutes into the first half, senior
Jodi Smith connected with the back of the net to take the lead. The FAU Owls defense held Temple scoreless in the first half with goalkeeper
Lexi Gonzalez ending the first half with three saves.
Florida Atlantic came out with energy to begin the second half. Senior
Drew Dempsey recorded a shot in the 68th minute to try to extend the lead. Shortly after, freshman
Hailey Santiago hit one in the net to extend the lead and recorded her second goal in her career as an Owl. Florida Atlantic took another opportunity to capitalize on the night when forward
Sloane Young scored the third goal of the night for the Owls. In the last 45 minutes of the match, Gonzalez secured six more saves to improve her careet total to 154 which puts her No. 7 in program history.
The Owls return home for a Sunday matchup against ECU on Oct. 27 for senior day, their final home game of the 2024 season. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+. All home games at the FAU Soccer Stadium are free admission.
