BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team fell to the Pirates by a 2-0 score in the last home game of the 2024 season.
The Owls move to 3-10-4, 2-5-2 AAC. This marked the second time these two teams have faced each other since entering the American Athletic Conference. Florida Atlantic moves to 0-3 against East Carolina program history.
Prior to the match, the eight seniors (
Kaylin Johnston,
Drew Dempsey,
Iris Young,
Emmy Schleifer,
Kat Cunningham,
Jodi Smith,
Sofia Voldby, and
Malaya Melancon) were celebrated for their achievements as an Owl. The first ten minutes of the match remained scoreless until East Carolina scored to take the lead early on. In the 27th minute, the Pirates scored again to extend their lead.
To start the second half, the Owls held the Pirates to no goals. Captain
Lexi Gonzalez now totals 155 saves thus far on the season. Both teams were tied at four shots each on the day.
The Owls will go on the road for the last regular season game of the year. Florida Atlantic will take on UTSA on Thursday, Oct. 31. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST and will be aired on ESPN+.
