CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A victory was not in the cards for Florida Atlantic men's tennis, falling to back-to-back national champion No. 3 Virgina 4-0 Sunday at the 2024 ITA Kickoff Invite.
With a Saturday win over UPenn, the Owls went into Sunday's match riding a five-match winning streak. That streak was quickly called into question with the Cavaliers earning the best two of three doubles point.
The Owls, playing one up from normal positions, then fell on three courts for the matches' final.
Riccardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis, said about Sunday's results
"Today was a touch challenge against one of the best teams in the country," said Gonzalez. "I am pleased with our play and our fight. Virginia was a bit better than us today, so credit to them for advancing to the next round. Lots of positives to take from this trip. We will continue to build and get better."
