No. 10 Owls Set to Face Eastern Michigan for Home Opener
11/13/2023 5:05:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time in the 2023-24 season, fans will be able to fill the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena to watch the No. 10 Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team (1-0), on a Tuesday evening matchup against Eastern Michigan (1-1). The game will air on ESPN+, tipoff is at 7 p.m.
The Owls, currently tied for the second-longest home winning streak in Division I, will look to take their 19th straight at the Elly.
Florida Atlantic's 2023-24 season is sponsored by Phil Smith Kia/Phil Smith Acura.
Florida Atlantic first took on Eastern Michigan in a road matchup on Dec. 4, 2022, where the Owls brought down the Eagles with a crushing 101-73 victory. Bryan Greenlee put on an all-time performance, scoring a career-high 23 points on 10-11 shooting, tied for the second-best shooting percentage during a game in team history (minimum nine field goals made).
While FAU's history with Eastern Michigan is limited, Owls head coach Dusty May knows the opposing program a bit more. May's first official assistant coaching job was with EMU for the 2005-06 season.
While last year's Final Four run will always be remembered, as evidenced by the banner hanging at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, May and the rest of the Owls are only looking ahead to the current campaign. As junior center Vlad Goldin said following the team's season-opening win against Loyola Chicago: "New team, new season, new chapter." Florida Atlantic kicked off their 2023-24 season with a 75-62 victory in the Barstool Invitational on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Goldin led the way with a career high tying 19 points and added 10 rebounds plus a career-high five blocks and four steals.
The Owls will have a quick turnaround and another home game at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Saturday, Nov. 18, taking on Bryant in a rematch of last season's Boca Raton Mega Bowl.
