BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team opened the 2023 season with a hard fought, 4-2 loss to University of California Santa Barbara.

The players were welcomed to the courts covered by clear beautiful skies, but that's not all the weather had to offer with a pre-match temperature of 45 degrees and a constant wind off the Atlantic. Both were a factor in the match's outcome, but neither deterred fans from supporting the Owls.

QUOTABLE

"Today was very average with too many ups and downs," said Ricardo Gonzalez. "I am not pleased with the overall team performance. We have got to bounce back quickly and be ready for tomorrow. We have a ton of leadership and I have no doubt we will be better going forward."

Newcomer Nicolas Acevedo made quick work of his opponent on court one to even the match at 1-1. UCSB would go up again, only to see Hunter Robbins comeback from being down a set to win on court six and pull FAU within on at 3-2. But the rest of the matches would go down to the wire with courts two and three being tied at 6-6. The Owls would need both to come from behind for the win but saw UCSB take court three to clinch and court two ended unfinished.

FAU will return to the courts on Sunday to face Conference USA foe Rice at 1:30 p.m. or immediately following the UCSB versus USF contest.
