Owls Crush the Mile and More at Harvard

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team competed Friday at the Harvard Crimson Elite, finishing in fourth place out of 11 teams. There was major success in the meet that included a mile run with three Owls in the top three spots.

"Today was a good day. This was our 1st scored meet of the season, and a great test run for the C-USA's. We had a bunch of strong performances across the board and we're excited to race again tomorrow!"

The Owls head to Boston University tomorrow to compete in the BU Scarlet & White Invitational.

FAU Athletics is comprised of 21 intercollegiate teams involving 450 student-athletes that compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track, volleyball, beach volleyball, cheer and dance. The Owls are a NCAA Division I-A (FBS) institution and compete in Conference USA and the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) (beach volleyball, men's swimming). The Owls have been playing football since 2001 and are a perfect 4-0 in bowl games, the most recent being a 52-28 victory over SMU in the 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl. The dance team finished its 2014 season No. 8, nationally. FAU cheer won a national championship in 2016. Â

- The mile run was dominated by the Owls taking up all three of the top spots, Casey O'Connor finished in first place (5:13.52), Paige Saiz finished in second (5:13.73), and Jordan Stevens placed in third (5:14.89). Â Madison Kappler also finished in the top 10 in sixth-place (5:17.02)
- Cara Simpson continued to cement herself in FAU's 60m record books, finishing in the preliminaries with a time of 7.60 and in the finals at fifth place. (7.55) These times rank third and fifth respectively in school history.
- Jessica Lambert added on to her excellent season with a fourth-place finish in the 400m. (57.20)
