BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University football hosts its season opener on Saturday, taking on the Georgia Southern Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Howard Schnellenberger Field.
The Captains
For the second straight week, senior running back James Charles (offense), redshirt junior OLB Ahman Ross (defense) and redshirt sophomore punter Matt Hayball (special teams) are the Owls' captains.Series History
Last season was the first ever matchup between the two squads. In a game postponed nearly three months (originally scheduled for Sept. 19, it was played on Dec. 6), the Eagles won on their home field in Statesboro, 20-3. Javion Posey, now a wide receiver, had 15 pass attempts, completing seven, but also tossed two interceptions. He threw for 107 yards and ran for another 61. Nick Tronti was 7-for-13, with no INTs and 82 yards through the air. He ran for 16. James Charles added 42 rushing yards. Defensively, the Owls were led by Chase Lasater, who had 15 tackles, including a sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Ahman Ross forced a turnover in the game and added three tackles.
