JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team completed the North Florida Invite, a two-day meet hosted at Hodges Stadium on Friday. FAU competed in the triple jump, 100 meter hurdles, 800 meters and 100 meters to wrap up the regular season schedule of meets. The Owls will turn their focus to preparing for the Conference USA Championships, set to take place from Thursday, May 13 to Sunday, May 16 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
"Considering where we are in our training cycle and the fact that everyone's just completed their exams for the semester, we had a good meet," said head coach
Alex Smolka. "Now, it's time to fine tune everything and get ready for our outdoor conference champs!"
- Ameion Hamlet and Linsey Moorer finished 21st and 22nd, respectively in the triple jump. Hamlet finished with 10.47 meters, while Moorer followed with 9.48 meters
- In the 100 meter hurdles prelims, Nyeria Gordon ran the race in 14.81 for 24th place
- Jessica Lambert delivered a big race in the 800 meters for the second straight meet. She finished the race in 2:10.93 for 14th place
- Madlen Kappeler raced the 800 meters for 35th place with a personal record time of 2:24.94. Morgan Sharp followed in 39th place (2:28.76) in her first time racing the event
- Cara Simpson raced the 100 meters in 12.11 to gather 22nd place
The team will take a week off before competing at the 2021 C-USA Indoor Track & Field Championships. This year's championships is set to occur from May 13 to May 16 at the Murphy Center.
