Cross Country Turns in Multiple Top Times at Season-Opening Event

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's cross country teams posted four new all-time top-10 finishes as the women finished third amongst teams, and the men eighth, at Friday evening's 2026 Florida Intercollegiate meet. See all the results from the season-opening meet here.
TEAM FINISHES
The women totaled 83 points, with four runners in the top 25. They finished only behind UCF (39) and host North Florida (69). The men were a point away from seventh, edged out for that spot by Bethune-Cookman, as UNF took the team crown. All five Owl men's runners finished in the top 60.
TOP WOMEN'S FINISHERS
In her first FAU meet, grad transfer Kate Drummond crossed the line first, with the program's ninth-fastest 5K finish of 17:57.8. Madison Brown was a slot out of the top 10, in 11th at 18:11.03, and was joined in the top 20 by Teegan Anderson (18th at 18:21.07). A pair of Owls making their collegiate debut, freshman Gaby Castro and sophomore Cameron Shelby, were next – Castro in 22nd (18:24.39) and Shelby in 27th (18:31.56).
TOP MEN'S FINISHERS
Three men entered into the program's all-time top 10, two in their first ever college race. Freshman Carter Dieterich was the first Owl to finish, in 42nd, and his time of 15:51.58 ranks fourth fastest in the record books. Now in sixth is Noah Highsmith, with his new PR of 16:00.39, while freshman Parker Smith ranks eighth in the Owls' ledger, crossing in a time of 16:06.99.

The men and women are next in Tallahassee at Apalachee Regional Park for the Pre-Regional meet, Friday, Sept. 18.
