NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion had goals in each half and kept the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team out of the net, with the Owls losing their first Conference USA match of 2021, 2-0 on Friday night.
Â
The Beginning:
The Monarchs (3-4-1, 2-2-0 C-USA) scored 9:44 into the match, and held the Owls (2-3-2, 1-1-1 C-USA) without a shot before intermission.
Â
The Turning Point:
ODU doubled their advantage just 4:23 into the second half.
Â
The Finish:
The Owls had two attempts following that second score, both by Gi Krstec. Her shot in the 64th minute was blocked; her chance in the literal final seconds was saved.
Â
Notables:
"Old Dominion was very good tonight and hats off to them for a quality performance," said head coach Patrick Baker. "They were the better team and deserved the three points. We gave them a chance early and they capitalized on it to make it 1-0. I thought we might equalize but never generated much in regards to clear-cut chances. Proud of the 14 players that could play and each did everything they possibly could under the circumstances. We need to recover – watch film and get ready to go again next Friday."
What's Next:
The Owls return home next Friday, March 26, hosting Charlotte at FAU Soccer Stadium.
