Owls Pick up Key League Win over Charlotte

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team knocked off Charlotte, previously undefeated in Conference USA play, 1-0 at home on Friday night.
Â
The Beginning / The Turning Point:
After a scoreless first half, the Owls (3-3-2, 2-1-1 C-USA) took the lead on Mia Sennes' goal in the 62nd minute. Her header was served in off a cross from Molly Setsma, and marked the redshirt freshman's first career score as an Owl.
Â
The Finish:
Charlotte (3-4-0, 3-1-0 C-USA) went on the attack after that, with six shot attempts, not including an apparent goal late that was ruled offsides. But the Owls' defense kept the 49ers out of the net for the one-goal victory.
Â
Notables:
"We knew we were going to have our hands full. It had ebbs and flows to it," said head coach Patrick Baker of the match. "They were on the front foot at times and we had to defend well; we created some good chances and some good looks and they had to defend well. We talked about it at halftime, very similar to the Western Kentucky game. Zero to zero at halftime, probably a 45-minute game, whoever can score first is definitely going to have the inside position. And what a great goal. (Mia) Sennes scores her first college goal ever off a wonderful assist from Molly (Setsma) … production from two players, that we've been looking for that production to come from ."
