Owls Dominate Post-Meet Awards at CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming & diving team earned awarded with three post-meet awards at the 2021 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming & Diving Championships. Josh Fountain was named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet, Logan Downey was tabbed Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet and Ryan McIntire was awarded as the CCSA Diving Coach of the Year.

Fountain had an unstoppable weekend in the pool, racking up four gold medals and one silver. The Lilburn, Georgia native captured individual wins in each one of his races, made up of the 200 free (1:39.98), 500 free (4:31.62) and 1650 free (15:47.81). He also contributed to a gold in the 400 free relay (2:58.43) and silver in the 800 free relay (6:51.00).

Downey repeated his title as the Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet after also winning the award at the 2020 CCSA Championships. The senior swept on both boards, beginning the weekend with the gold on the 3-meter (320) and following that up the next night with another gold on the 1-meter (316.30). Downey becomes the first Owl to claim back-to-back Diver of the Meet titles.

McIntire was the easy choice for CCSA Diving Coach of the Year following his divers sweeping both events at the championships. Downey swept both boards, while Michael Cannatelli and Charlie Greene picked up two medals, each a silver and bronze. McIntire is the first coach to win the award since his former coach, Yaidel Gamboa won the award in 2017.

The three post-meet awards marked the most of any school at the championships, and most for the Owls in program history.
The Conference USA Championships for the women's team gets going tomorrow, Thursday, at the McCauley Aquatic Center hosted by Georgia Tech. The three-day championships runs through Satuday.
