Upcoming Event: Swimming & Diving versus Indian River on September 19, 2025 at 2:15 p.m.

Former Florida Atlantic University standout diver Ryan McIntire joined the swimming and diving staff in the fall of 2017Â as the diving coach. Approaching his fourth year on the coaching staff, McIntire has led multiple conference medalists and NCAA Zone qualifiers, as well as had a diver reach the A-final at the conference championships in each event every year.
Â
McIntire’s divers are coming off a notable 2019-20 season. Logan Downey was named the unanimous 2019-20 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Diver of the Year. Downey defended his 1-meter title and earned the silver medal at the CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships to receive the Most Outstanding Male Diver of the Meet award. Downey earned conference diver of the week four times throughout the year to rack up his career total to 12. Michael Cannatelli brought home the award twice.
Â
On the women’s side, Malvina Catalano broke the school record on the 1-meter (306.50), while also earning the silver medal in the event at the 2020 Conference USA Championships. Catalano was also named the C-USA Diver of the Week three times throughout the season. Alicia Mora had a notable rookie year for the Owls, breaking the FAU Freshman record in the 1-meter (300.35).
Â
McIntire sent four divers to the 2020 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships. Catalano qualified for finals on the 1- and 3-meter, while Taylor Downs and Cannatelli punched their tickets on the platform. Four divers earned Honorable Mention honors for the 2020 CSCAA Scholar All-American Team, which included Catalano, Downs, Cannatelli and Downey.
Â
At the 2019 CCSA Championships, Downey brought home the gold on the 1-meter, becoming McIntire’s first conference champion. Freshman Cannatelli also finished with a silver medal on the 3-meter and gold on the exhibition platform event. Also during his McIntire’s season, Catalano reached the NCAA Zone Championship and competed on the 1- and 3-meter.
Â
During McIntire’s first season leading the divers, Downey broke a FAU Freshman record on the 1-meter (351.50) at the 2018 CCSA Championships, which helped him earn silver finishes on both boards. Downey also qualified for NCAA Zones and became McIntire’s first competitor.
Â
McIntire's appointment comes after an outstanding four-year career with the Owls as a student-athlete. He was named the CCSA Male Diver of the Year and competed at the NCAA Zone Championships during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. As a senior and captain of the team, McIntire earned the CCSA Most Outstanding Male Diver of the Championship title after claiming the 1-meter (398.35) and 3-meter events (414.55), breaking his own school records in both. McIntire’s records still hold to this day.
Â
The Neptune Beach, Florida native gained coaching experience working with athletes at Boca Raton High School. He guided a diver to the state championship for the first time in school history and the school has had divers represented in the state championship every year since, reaching as high as fourth place. As a coach, he has mentored a diver who won the USA Diving National Championship, as well as mentored a few AAU National Champions.
Â
McIntire graduated from FAU with a bachelor’s degree in history in May 2017.
